The UK’s 100 Most Annoying Things

A food company in Britain recently conducted a survey of the public to find out what the top 100 most annoying things were.  Coming out at No. 1. is something you would only really understand if you’ve spent some time in England.

In first place, the most annoying thing to people in the UK, are Chavs !

It is difficult to explain what a Chav really is but the Wikipedia definition does a pretty good job:

The stereotypical “chav” is an aggressive teenager or young adult who often engages in anti-social behaviour, such as street drinking, drug abuse and rowdy behaviour. They are often assumed to be unemployed or in a low paid job.

Here are the top 10 most annoying things:

1. Chavs

2. People driving close behind you (standard here in Kuwait)

3. People who smell

4. People who eat with their mouth open

5. Rude shop assistants

6. Foreign call centres

7. Stepping in dog poo

8. People who cough and do not cover their mouths

9. Slow internet connections (I bet they never had the problems we’ve all had with our connections!!)

10. Poor customer service

Looking down the list, I laughed when I read  #74, some people really do get annoyed at the smallest things !

Movie Review : Eagle Eye

eagle-eye-copy

During Ramadan I always try to catch up with all the flms I have been meaning to watch. So I will be posting a few movie reviews over the next few days.

Sometimes movies slip in the “I must watch that sometime” list because of the stars, or the budget/marketing. You could call Eagle Eye one that slipped in as I had no idea what the story was about.  It stars Shia Le Boef from Transformers and the last Indiana Jones and amongst others features Michael Chiklis from The Shield and Billy Bob Thornton from…..uummm…can’t remember but he used to be married to Angelina Jolie.

Plot

Without giving too much away, Shia and Michelle Monaghan (Made of Honour) are two strangers who are  thrown together by mysterious phone calls from a woman they have never met and who forces them to follow a series of instructions. They are constantly being watched and are being controlled by the everyday technology around them. The 18 Weirdest Ice Cream Flavours

spaghettichesse-ice-cream-copy

Pretty much everyone likes ice cream right ? The best ice cream I have ever had is in Italy (surprise, surprise). The ‘gelaterias’ offer so many different flavours, but I can say I have never seen any of these weird flavours. The ice cream in the photo is spaghetti and cheese.  And yes those are real spaghetti pieces !!

To see the other 17 flavours click [here]. I can tell you some of them are pretty disgusting, but someone must like them !!

Seinfeld’s Back ! (Sort of)

seinfeld-reunion-larry-david

Seinfeld is probably my favourite comedy show of all time and since it finished all those years ago, I don’t think anything has really replaced it. I loved all the characters and it still makes me laugh even though I’ve seen all the episodes so many times. So you can imagine my delight when I heard they’re getting back together. Kuwait Restaurant Review : Mr. Subs

Ok this is not a restaurant review as such, it’s more a review of a sandwich (well shawerma to be exact).  This weekend I was out with friends when one mentioned how he had to pick up a shawerma from the best shawerma place in Kuwait, Mr. Subs. This was the first time I had heard of Mr. Subs, which is in Jabriya next to the drive thru MacDonald’s. Click here to read my verdict

The Amazing Human Camera

The other day I was talking about a series  that ran a year ago in the UK called, Extraordinary People. I managed to catch one of the episodes about an amazing teenager called Stephen Wiltshire. He is autistic but is blessed with an amazing ability. He has a photographic memory.

Ok, you maybe thinking its not THAT special. But when I tell you, he uses his memory to draw exactly what he saw, to such a high level of detail, that does sound more special. But if I told what he actually draws from memory, I don’t think you would believe me. So check out the 5 minute clip, to see exactly how brilliant (to the level of genius), this guy is.

Is it a man ? Is it a woman ?

The last couple of days I have heard about a big controversy in athletics and its not about steroids or drugs. South African runner Caster Semenya  easily won the woman’s 800m gold in the World Athletics Championships in Berlin. But the big controversy about the win is that the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) has asked Caster Semenya to do a gender test. Basically a test to confirm if she is really a woman or a guy !!

After watching the clip it looks pretty obvious to me, but check it out for yourself !

100 easiest, fastest Summer recipes

With Ramadan underway, I can imagine a lot of us are enjoying some great food. If any of you are looking to try some new recipes this month, the Guardian website has asked some of the top chefs to name their best, quickest recipes. In total there are 100 to choose from. Looking through the list, number 43 looks one of the tastiest:

43. Linguine with herbed ricotta

Boil enough linguine or spaghetti for two people. Meanwhile chop a fistful of rocket with a small bunch of chives, and another small bunch of mint or basil or, if you prefer, oregano. Fold all this verdant herbiness into a small tub of ricotta cheese. Loosen this mix with the juice of half a lemon and two tablespoons of olive oil. Season with salt and fresh ground black pepper. Drain the cooked pasta only briefly, leaving it damp, and fold it with the ricotta mix before serving.

Some of the recipes don’t look that simple, but you might find a few that are interesting. There’s even one from Gordon Ramsey. Click [here] to see the the other 99 recipes.

The Greatest Ever 1st Audition !

Well that’s according to Simon Cowell after teacher Danyl Johnon performed his audition to appear in X-Factor (the UK version of American Idol). The new season of the show just started in the UK and its always entertaining.

Check it out !

Thanks Night Flower :)

Ramadan Kareem

Mubarak 3laykom Al Shaher

I would like to wish you all a very blessed Ramadan and Mubarak 3laykom al shaher.

I know a lot of you who read this blog live outside Kuwait and I wish you all the best for the month ahead and hope the fasting is not too heavy a burden. I  have fasted during Ramadan when living outside and I know how challenging it is and especially as you are away from your families.

Best wishes to you all.
