A Couple of Starbucks Tips

I am a regular Starbucks customer. I’ve probably tried everything on the food menu but unlike most people when it comes to coffee I only order the Coffee of The Day. Call me a traditionalist but to me Mocha’s,Lattes and worst of all Caramel or Toffee-nut lattes/macchiatos are just not coffees. You can’t even taste any coffee. And as I have my coffee amaro as the Italians call it (ie. no sugar), I can’t even drink those sweet ‘coffee’ drinks.

Anyway if you are a regular coffee drinker you might be interested in the first of these tips. The second is about the Starbucks muffins.

Ordering The Coffee Press

The problem with the Coffee of the Day is that you have no choice on the blend coffee. You just have to go with what they’re brewing at the time. I actually like the Christmas Blend which comes out (yes, you guessed it) every Winter and is only sometimes brewed. So the guy in Starbucks suggested I order a Coffee Press (the glass coffee maker) and they will put the Christmas Blend in for me. “Ok”, I said “but I actually want to order two Coffee Presses”.

So then he suggested that I buy a whole packet of Christmas Blend which costs KD2.750, they will make the two coffee presses for no extra cost and I can take away the unused coffee in the packet home with me ! Not only that, I can go to any Starbucks with that coffee and they will make me a Coffee Press without having to pay!

Considering two separate coffee presses cost around KD2.500 anyway (each press serves two cups by the way), this is a really good deal. Especially as there is still plenty of unused coffee leftover and if you tend to have your coffee ‘to go’.

New Blueberry Muffins

Ever since Starbucks introduced their new food menu a few months ago, I have been a huge fan. Its such a big improvement on what they used to sell. Now during the week I never have time for breakfast, so I usually pick up a muffin from Starbucks. I tend to go with blueberry. But this week I noticed they looked different (slightly powdered sugar top) and was told its a new recipe.

Well yes it is new and depending on your taste it might be for the better. Personally I found it way too sweet, in fact it tasted more like a cup cake than a muffin! I actually mentioned that they should market it as a cup cake as it might do really well. But as a muffin, no. It doesn’t work.

So if you are looking for a cup cake, go for the blueberry muffin. If you are looking for a muffin try the spiced apple (although its a bit heavy).

nemo : I must be a late adopter of the press then !! I sometimes go for an americano during the evening as its less strong than a filter coffee.

Ansam : Well I must admit, Starbucks does not compare to the amazing coffee you get from a Nespresso for example !

I love bananas, but I’ve never thought of eating one with my coffee. Will have to bring one with me next time I go to Starbucks :)
