Burger Review : Nino’s
Whenever I go to Nino’s I spend ages to deciding what to eat. The menu is pretty big but nothing really seems to catch my eye. The food is definitely healthier than a lot of restuarants, but I just struggle in finding something that I think I will enjoy. The pasta dishes are OK, but I don’t like the creamy cheese ones and the tomato based ones don’t seem to use fresh tomatoes. I also wasn’t crazy about their risotto. Anyway this weekend I thought I would give their burger a try.
They have four different ones to choose from but I wanted a mushroom burger. Now here’s the thing, they have a burger with mushroom sauce, but not with actual mushrooms. However the waiter agreed to add mushrooms as a special request but insisted that it be a cheese burger as “the cheese will hold the mushrooms”. What ?! Anyway I just went with it even though I’m not one for really adding cheese to my burger.
The Burger Arrives…
When the burger came, it looked good although it also looked like someone had nicked a few french fries on its way to our table as there so few on the plate ! They did however bring the mushroom sauce on the side. My first bite into the burger told me immediately that it was indeed a really good burger. The bun was fresh and good quality and you could tell that the beef patty was not only freshly made but also really lean. Yeah this is exactly what I want from a burger, good quality bun and beef and very tasty.
A slight criticism would be that there was maybe a bit too much mayo, but probably it would be OK for most people. There were also very few mushrooms, but as this was a special order I guess maybe that’s understandable. However the burger was a good size and filled me up without being too heavy on the stomach, which is a problem with many of the casual dining restaurants along the Gulf Road.
The price of most of the burgers at Nino’s is KD 2.750 which is worth it (although they added an extra KD 1/2 for the mushrooms which really wasn’t worth it).
Had this burger had more mushrooms and less mayo it could have got a really good score. Even so, it is still a very good burger and deserves at least

I dont agree on their food being healthier than other places! A really healthy Italian is Crostini. I once ordered the Hamour dish in Nino and it was OVER oily. I love Nino’s Veal Lemon + Beef & Potato Salad (Yogurt based sauce) YUMMMMMMMMM
I’ve never heard of Crostini before – I need to check it out!
I’m not sure I would classify Nino’s as Italian – maybe Italian influenced :)
Italian – Fusion hehehe
For some reason Italian Fusion gives me the idea of eating pasta with chopsticks LOL !
