I Think I’ve Found The Right Smartphone !

It’s not revolutionary, its not cutting edge, but I do think I have finally found the right smartphone for me. I’m going to jump on the Blackberry bandwagon and go for the upcoming Blackberry Bold 2 (or Blackberry 9700 as its officially known).

The phone is an improvement on what is the best Blackberry out there right now. What I especially like with the model is the slimmer design – its almost the same size as my Nokia E65 (just 1cm wider for the screen) and which fits comfortably in my jeans pocket. The previous Blackberry Bold looked too bulky to me.

The size of other smartphones such as the HTC HD2 is something that actually put me off too (I’m not one of those people who tends to walk with their phone in their hand when I’m not using it).

I also like the new small touch navigation pad they’ve introduced which you can see in action in the clip at the end of this post.

Bold 1 vs Bold 2

Bold 1 vs Bold 2 : The new Blackberry Bold on the right is slimmer than the first one, but has a slightly smaller screen (photo from Stuff.tv)

But the real thing that sealed it for me was something that a reader (q8 tears) mentioned in a recent comment. What am I really looking for my phone to do? Calling (obviously), texting, emailing and occasionally checking something on the net when I’m out. Blackberry Bold 2 seems to do it all and do it well – especially the emailing and texting part, which I think the touch screen phones really suffer from. I don’t think I could really get used to sending messages from touch screen phones.

Check out the Hands On review of the Blackberry Bold 9700 from Stuff TV:

The Blackberry is due for release on 11 November and Expansys are selling it for £415 (incl. VAT) which is roughly what Alghanim are currently selling the the first Blackberry Bold for !

I think u have made a good choice.

I agree about texting on a touch screen,it takes a while to get used to. However the keypad on the blackeberry is quite small. I have seen the current version of the blackeberry in the stores and found the keys are small and too close to each other which makes texting hard….. or maybe I just have chubby little fingers..lol! But u should get a feel for it first, just in case u were thinking of buying it online.

I think this will be a big hit especially as it’s being released just before X-mas.

Oh forgot to add….found the woman’s finger nails really distracting when I was watching the video…was she advertising her manicure or the blackberry…lol!!!

I considered getting the blackberry Bold, but I could not synch it to my macbook!! and the iphone seemed like a logical choice. I don’t think there is a perfect smart phone keyboard out their. The phone u like seems to have a small keyboard, keep that in mind.
As for the IPhone, I think it is a good device, I like it, however, the battery is not great though, I am having issues with it.
    Good luck.

Why are phones in Q8 so expensive?

Night Flower : I was more distracted by the woman’s shaking hand ! She should lay off the coffee for a bit !!
You might have been using the Blackberry Curve which is smaller. But will give it a try before buying, just to be sure.

gasman : I know the new Bold has updated software which hopefully would allow people to synch to Mac. The keyboard does seem small but I guess big enough for my thumbs to write messages. There is technique to Blackberry messaging :)

Battery life is a big issue for me and that (along with the fact that you can’t easily replace the battery) is one of the things that put me off the I-phone.

There is actually no official Blackbery agent in Kuwait would you believe and until very recently you HAD to have a Zain line to get the full Blackberry messaging options (BIM). But now all 3 mobile companies have the Blackberry service. The funny thing here is that Blackberry is huge amongst young people !! Amazing , considering its aimed at the Business user. Because of this phenomena they charge high prices because they know people will pay and have limited options.

Do you think the phone companies are fixing their prices ( together)?
    It sure sounds like it!
Which defeats the purpose of not having a monopoly!!
