Two New Smartphones

As some of you may already know I’ve been looking to make the switch to a Smartphone but can’t really decide which one. I’ve had a look at the I-phone which I think is not worth the money and recently I’ve been leaning towards the Blackberry, but waiting for a new model to come out. Well now it has. The Blackberry Storm2 is a touch screen Blackberry which is supposed to be a big improvement on the first Blackberry Storm that came out a year ago and flopped big time because of its unfriendly touch screen and lack of features - It didn’t even have wi-fi !

So I was looking forward to seeing the Blackberry Storm 2 come out. Looking at the clip it certainly looks impressive, but writing emails and messages looks too fiddly. So I am not 100% convinced.

The other Smartphone that’s coming out is the HTC HD2 which runs on the Windows mobile software. This looks even more impressive to the point of it being an I-Phone clone (I would say I-Phone killer but I don’t want to upset all you Apple Heads out there :) ) I have tried to write a message on the original Touch HD and it took me ages, although I was told it’s a matter of getting used to it. I might end up going for this as I really like the interface and it can also stand up to being a solid music and video player. Check out the review below from Stuff Magazine:

According to the Expansys website, the HD2 is due for release on 11 November and they are selling it for£ 550 (incl. VAT), which is about KD250. [LINK]

For those who want to to see all the functions of the HD2 in action (without anyone talking over explaining what’s going on), check this video clip out which pretty much shows you everything :

supposedly the new windows mobile has gotten a make over and is back as a major player in the market. i guess the competition with the androids, symbian, windows mobile, blackberry, and iphone is good for everyone.

There are just so many different mobile phone operating systems out there, but I think Windows (Microsoft) is really worried about Android which is backed by Google.

To choose a phone first think what your use is?!
1)windows mobile then there is no phone better than the HTC HD, i have it and it is amazing..the touch screen, the processor, everything…i can only imagine how much more efficient the HTC HD2 is with the 1GHZ processor and imagine browsing with the 4.3″ screen !!!!
2)communication only…send/recieve phonecalls, e-mails, sms etc. go with Blackberry Magnum; will be out Q1 2010. Good features including QWERTY keyboard and touchscreen.
3)If you’re an application guy the i-phone has no competition.

Some good points. I agree that HTC HD2 had really improved what was already an excellent phone. Re: point 3, you know I still don’t think that this would persuade me. I mean I know there are a ton of apps for the I-phone, but are most of them really that useful ?

most of them arent that useful but you have a huge library of things to choose from, as an apps store and multimedia smartphone i dont think anything compares to the iphone. but they need to fix some of the annoying things that arent available in their OS at this time for their next phone.

When it comes to multimedia, I must admit I-Phone rules but having looked at HTC HD2 I think they have got a major challenge coming up.

Actually a lot of people are put off touch screen phones, esp. for writing text/emails. But I’ve heard that after a few days you get used to it - I still have my doubts though
