Movie Review : Bruno

bruno-poster-copy

I finally managed to get hold of a good copy of Bruno, which stars Sacha Baron Cohen who played Borat and Ali G. I had a feeling this movie wouldn’t be worth watching here in the cinema. And I was right ! Actually it will never, ever open here in the cinema.  There are a few scenes that are beyond rude. The movie is an Adult comedy and some scenes are definitely not for anyone who is easily offended. Let’s put it this way. If you felt uncomfortable watching Borat, you will probably be shocked by a couple of the scenes in Bruno.

Plot

Bruno is an outrageously gay Austrian fashion reporter who is desperate to make it big in Hollywood and comes up with crazy ideas in order to become a superstar. The movie is shot in a similar fake documentary reality style as Borat, with real people (some famous) who have no idea that Bruno is being played by an actor.

Verdict

Overall, hilarious !! I couldn’t stop laughing at some of the scenes, I even had tears in my eyes at one stage. Sacha Baron Cohen is turning into one of the best ever comedy character actors. He is just so believable as Bruno and I’m amazed how he has the guts to do and say the things he does. A lot of the fun is just seeing the reaction of the other people involved.

The movie is short (less than 90 minutes) which is good because you do get the feeling towards the end that the jokes are starting to get a bit thin and they are running out of ideas. A few scenes aren’t as funny as they should be, but luckily there are enough funny parts to have you laughing throughout.

You can check out a couple of good clips from the movie below (they are family friendly just in case you were wondering :) ). The first clip is Bruno trying his luck at Middle East peace and the second is when he joins an army training camp in America. Hello ! :)

That’s probably a good idea, and that’s why I made sure the clips are OK for anyone to watch at any time :)

The trailer is pretty graphic and there are probably 3 or 4 scenes in the movie which go overboard, but for the most part of the movie its not too bad (sort of !)

ehh..spent most of that film looking away and then finally decided i’d had enough and walked out!

i think the best parts were in the trailer to be honest, and apart from that..it tried to be funny (keyword: tried), instead it was just lame/ vulgar.

This movie really does split opinion.I can understand your reaction as some of the ‘bad’ parts are probably more shocking than funny to some people. Just glad you didn’t go to see it because of my recommendation, phew ! :)

Great news about the Orange adverts though. So cool that they’re back !

hmm..i think thats the whole point though, to try to be funny by ‘shocking’ the people he plays the jokes on. So in reality their reactions arent that funny because its what anyone would do and not what only a prejudiced person would do like with Borat. Just isn’t intelligent humour..madri..I guess each to their own..

haha! maybe they read your blog ;)
