Movie Review : Eagle Eye

During Ramadan I always try to catch up with all the flms I have been meaning to watch. So I will be posting a few movie reviews over the next few days.

Sometimes movies slip in the “I must watch that sometime” list because of the stars, or the budget/marketing. You could call Eagle Eye one that slipped in as I had no idea what the story was about.  It stars Shia Le Boef from Transformers and the last Indiana Jones and amongst others features Michael Chiklis from The Shield and Billy Bob Thornton from…..uummm…can’t remember but he used to be married to Angelina Jolie.

Plot

Without giving too much away, Shia and Michelle Monaghan (Made of Honour) are two strangers who are  thrown together by mysterious phone calls from a woman they have never met and who forces them to follow a series of instructions. They are constantly being watched and are being controlled by the everyday technology around them.

Verdict

For the first 45 minutes the movie races along.  Then the identity of the woman’s voice over the phone is revealed and it quickly starts going downhill. The plot becomes so stupid, so ridiculous that you don’t care who dies, you don’t care if and how they stop a major assassination plot or how it ends.

All this is a big shame as the first half of the movie really hooked me in and the acting is pretty good throughout, but the storyline just becomes too stupid.

I actually liked the movie, I thought it was different and I have not seen a movie with a similar story line before.
I would give it 3 and 1/2 stars

The only other movie that I know is similar is Enemy of the State with Will Smith, but that movie is much better than Eagle Eye.

i agree with your review, the first 30-45 mins it actually might seem like a good movie, then it all goes downhill from there…

Yeah it was so disappointing after such a good start, I felt like I wasted my time…
