Kuwait Restaurant Review : Mr. Subs

Ok this is not a restaurant review as such, it’s more a review of a sandwich (well shawerma to be exact).  This weekend I was out with friends when one mentioned how he had to pick up a shawerma from the best shawerma place in Kuwait, Mr. Subs. This was the first time I had heard of Mr. Subs, which is in Jabriya next to the drive thru MacDonald’s.

We stopped outside the restaurant and used the car order service. It was 1:30 am but the guy who came to our car was one of the nicest and jolliest waiters ever. I decided to go for the meat shawerma over the chicken. To really judge how good a shawerma is, I really think you need to go for a meat one. Here is the run down :

  • The shawerma comes in two types of bread, foccacia and a wrap (thin Lebanese khoboz - not saj). I had the Lebanese bread and would probably recommend it as the foccacia looks pretty doughy.
  • The cost is 700 fils, more than double the standard shawerma price in Kuwait. The chicken is 600 fils.
  • Didn’t go in the restaurant but it looks very clean. There are few tables inside where people were eating.
  • The sandwich comes well wrapped in Mr. Subs own good quality grease proof paper, so no dripping shawerma sauce :)

Verdict

So what about the shawerma itself ? Not sure if I would say its the best in Kuwait, but certainly the best I have tried here. The meat is very lean and there is plenty of it. I am not a big fan of pickle in my shawerma, but this added to the taste. Oh and the sandwich is really filling. Usually a shawerma takes me a couple minutes to finish, but I had to really take my time with this one. And I would say one would be enough for most people. Very tasty and well worth the price. If I could improve it I would have wanted even thinner bread, but overall a great shawerma and well worth the trip.

The photos don’t seem to do the shawarma justice! Obviously it tastes better than it looks.

U are right, Mr Subs would be the last place I would look to find a good shawarma…thanks for posting this to let us know otherwise.

Alla ye3afeech :) Wala I think I would only go for the shawerma, the rest of the sandwiches remind me of Subway and don’t look that special
