Top 5 Best Rock Singing Voices
I like some rock music but would not call myself a huge rock music fan. And there are some singers who have the perfect voice for singing rock music. You know that throaty, earthy voice. The voice that can only be used to sing rock songs. Well this is the list of my Top 5 rock singing voices from some of my favorite singers/songs (in no order).
1. Chris Daughtry
The guy who showed that you don’t have to actually win American Idol to be successful. His band’s first album ‘Daughtry’ came out in 2006 and was one of the best albums of the year with songs like “It’s Not Over” and my favourite “Home”. I think he has one of the best new voices around.
For the clip I have chosen an acoustic cover version of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” that he recently recorded in a German radio station. What an amazing version. Its 100 times better than the original and his voice is great, especially at the end.
2. Kelly Jones(Lead singer of Stereophonics)
The Stereophonics is a Welsh band that broke on to the scene a few years ago. The lead singer Kelly Jones has a brilliant voice, his style is not as rocky as some of the others on this list but its super cool, with a more “blues” feel to it. Stereophonics have a few good songs but not many. By far their best (and one of my all time favourite ever songs) is “Maybe Tomorrow”. A truly great, great song. The video is quite long as the song doesn’t start till 1min 30 secs in. The ending is cool as he continues singing the song accappella in a hotel room.
3. Ligabue
I doubt any of you have heard of Luciano Ligabue, but the guy is a hugely popular in Italy. He’s filled out football stadiums and holds the record for the largest attended concert in Europe by a single artist when 180, 000 people attended a concert of his in 2005. His voice is so rocky its unbelievable, if anything maybe too rocky ! His 2nd greatest hits album “Secondo Tempo” has some really good songs on it.
The clip is of my favourite song of his: “Questa e’ la Mia Vita” (”This is My Life”). I like the video a lot and even if you don’t understand the meaning of the words I think you will enjoy the song. He sings that it is his life and basically he will decide how it goes.
4. James Morrison
That’s James (not Jim from The Doors). He’s only had two albums out but both have some good songs. You may have heard his most recent one which is a duet with Nelly Furtado. Like Kelly Jones, James Morrison has a blues feel to his voice. He keeps a lid on his rocky voice, so its quite controlled but its still such a good voice to listen to.
For the clip I could have gone with his most famous song, “You Give Me Something”, but I’ve gone with the first song from his new album called “Please Don’t Stop The Rain” instead. It has such an uplifting feel to it. And also because I miss the rain :)
5. Chad Kroeger (Lead Singer of Nickelback)
I could not do a list like this without Chad Kroeger from Nickelback! The guy has a fantastic voice with some great songs like the one that made the group famous “How you remind me”, to “Someday” to “Hero” from the Spiderman 2 movie. All good songs. Sure they sound similar but who cares. To someone who isn’t a rock fan they are good enough for me. And the voice is THE ROCK VOICE.
For the clip I have chosen my favourite video of theirs ”Rockstar”. It is such a cool, original video. He is only in it for 2 seconds at the end, but there are a load of celebrities and ordinary people in it ”singing” the song! And I can bet you will be singing “hey hey I wanna be a rockstar “.

I really like Daughtry’s version of poker face.
It was the best thing that happened to him by not winning American Idol, as he got to do his own material without being told what to do by signing a contract with Idol.
James Morrison “Please Don’t Stop The Rain” 3ajeeeeeeeebaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stereophonics “Maybe Tomorrow” sam3at’ha bs ma athker wain ;/

Chris Daughtry his voice is just AMAZING!!!
Night Flower : He should release that version of Poker Face, it was so good. I think he was too good for American Idol and i agree he gets to do the music he wants to do. But didn’t Simon want him to win ?
SaRooN: Yeah the James Morrison is such a beautiful song. His album is very, very good.
I think most people ma raa7 yafhamoon Ligabue LOL !
First time to see rockstar’s clip; very nice and enjoyable to watch!!! You know i’m gonna ask for a CD. You make Z so many…time for me to ask for one. Time to show your DJ skill and knowledge that we all know you have ..call it best of Daughtry,Morrison & Kroeger. The two in the middle suck bigtime…especially that italian guy…the italian has a good voice but you know after Greece my feeling towards italians…exception is Italian footballers…i’m ok with them !!!
Chris Daughtry has a seriously sexy voice!
q8tears:I guess its been a while since I made you a CD so Ok, I think those 3 have enough songs to make a good mix.
I cannot believe you didn’t like the Stereophonics song ! OK the video isn’t great but the song is.
I’m sure if an Italian knew your views they would say “ti mando a quel paese !!”
desertpalms : As a guy I would describe it as cool, but I know what you mean :)
Thanks for posting the Nickelback video…never seen it before, thought it was cool….I pretty much agree with your selection of voices (you like Ligabue, I prefer Vasco Rossi, practically identical voices)…I never used to pay too much attention to James Morrison, I think I should start now (btw I really like his duet with Furtado)…Stereophonix, well, you know how much I dig that song and everything about it….Chris Daughtry, if anybody out there doesn’t like his voice they should do themselves a favour AND DIE!! One of my all time favourite ‘ROCK’ voices (when I was young) was David Coverdale (ex Whitesnake), could hit the high notes just aswel as the low ones (always was a favourite of mine - could recomend a few songs for you)…
p.s honorable mention goes out to Jon Bon Jovi…Cheers.
I want a CD 2 :( ( adree raza wayhey ;p )
Z : i think Ligabue has better songs, but I agree they both have v. similar voices. I know a couple of Whitesnake songs…Here I Go Again and Is This Love but don’t know anything else by them. A worthy contender for the list
SaRooN : No problem, I’m happy to make you a copy too
aham shay el chmaq in James Morrison’s song :)
Yeah I spotted that. I guess a guy laabis chmaq singing please don’t stop the rain makes sense when you think about it…
When do you suppose you can update with another post similar this. I feel that whole field of indie music needs to get listened to more.
