“It’s OK - It’s not swine flu :)”

I’ve noticed something these past few weeks. Whenever I get an email or text from a friend/colleague/contractor who is back afer being ill or is unwell, right after mentioning they are or have been sick they write the words “It’s OK - It’s not swine flu :)”
Now I don’t know about you, but the first thing that comes to mind when I hear someone is sick is not “Do you have swine flu ??!?” “Are you infected ?” “Do you have the H1N1 virus??” So why do people feel the need to volunteer this info ? In fact it might work against them. In 5 seconds the person hearing the news has gone from “On I am so sorry, hope you feel better soon, is there anything you need? ” to thinking “oh that’s OK then, better get back to my sudoku”. Within 5 seconds any sympathy has evaporated !
And what’s with the smiley at the end?? As a joke its been used way too many times so not sure if you would still call it funny. Are they happy they are sick with something which isn’t swine flu ? Seems strange. Whenever I am not feeling well I never have a smiley face, real or typed !
On a serious note, swine flu is really bad news. Inshalla they get a vaccine ready soon and the virus stops spreading. There is enough we all have to deal with at the moment !

I agree SaRooN
Swine flu WILL continue to spread. It is predicted that in the next flu season (winter), there will be a rise in the number of patients with swine flu.
It is NOT worse than the regular flu, however, it is more infectious ( easier to transmit) and obviously bit more famous!
If a vaccine becomes available, it would be a good idea to get it.
Meh.
swine flu is overrated. it’s become really common to hear so and so got swine flu that the response is “oh really?..(insert yawn)”
theres medication for it and apparently the vaccine should be coming out next month so tbh its just getting really boring hearing people panic over something so stupid..like havent people had flu before? its normal! Okay, so its more infectious but thats because its a new strain, thats to be expected!
The no’s of those infected is decreasing as well..i think it was something like from 100,000 last month in the uk to 30,000..
Every time u go to the hospital here the nurse at triage asks u “have u had any flu symptoms recently?” I have been fortunate to answer no. However there was one one occasion where I was a little under the weather, so what if I answered yes instead of no? I have visions of the nurse screaming out “we have a live one here and men in white coats dragging me away to complete isolation…lol!!
I think society has become really paranoid over the swine flu. U can’t walk in a mall without bumping into a “purell sanitizer” station in every corner. There are germs everywhere!!
gasman : Yeah I am dreading the winter, that’s when the flu is at its strongest. I do think though that a lot of people call any type of cold “the flu”, when it is nowhere near.
desertpalms : The problem in the UK is because they were one of the first countires to report cases, its been in the news for such a long time now. The media plays a big role in scaring people but 30,000 is still a big number though!
Night Flower : Exactly ! And in the long run these sanitizers will create ’superbacteria’ as they become used to their effects.(that’s what I’ve heard anyway!). BTW I can understand why u would always want to say “no” :)
