Dragon’s Den

The 5 Dragons

I’m not a fan of reality TV shows, with the exception of three shows:

1. The Apprentice UK

2. Gordon Ramsey’s Kitchen Nightmares

3. Dragon’s Den

All three shows are from the UK and at the moment I am watching season 7 of Dragon’s Den which is shown on BBC 2 in the UK (luckily I can get it off the Net).  Anyway for those who have never seen the show before, it’s basically about groups of inventors and entrepreneurs who try to get a cash investment in their business from 5 millionaire investors (who are known as the dragons) in exchange for a % share in the business.

What I like about this show is that you get to see different original business ideas being presented and you find out what matters to investors when they decide to make an investment. Or as Theo Pathitis (the guy in the pink tie) says “which opportunities are worthy of investing part of my children’s inheritance” :)  . The business ideas presented are so different…some are original and clever..others are really bad. The entrepreneurs also have to cope with a real grilling from the Dragons as they get challenged on their sales numbers and how much they think their business is worth. Then if they get through all that and convince them to invest there is the negotiation.. which really needs a cool head.

The Dragons have all got their own style and personalities (the ones I like the most are Theo and Peter, the tall guy) and its interesting that they rarely all agree that an offer should be made. Usually most of them end with the words “I’m out !”. Sometimes they make an offer but the entrepreneur rejects it as too low and leaves without the money. So you never know what’s going to happen.

The show is probably most enjoyable for people who are interested in buisness, but I think most people would find it fun.

I have never seen Dragons Den, sounds like a good show.

I second the apprentice, we don’t get the British version here. They now show the celebrity apprentice with trump which is really good. A bunch of celebrities battle it out to win money for their charities. It’s really good entertainment.

If you the Apprentice you will probably like Dragon’s Den. If I had the choice of watching Sir Alan Sugar or Donald Trump..Sir Alan would get my vote every time. I am curious to see the celebrity version of the US Apprentice though..

Yeah I was flicking through the channels last night and saw it on bbc2..I was shocked cuz usually its only on Dave (this re-run channel which has like 2 programs..topgear and dragons den..which is aaaallright with me, 2 of my fav shows! :D)

I realised it must be a new series..bas I was too tired to watch it..watching tv needs energy & effort! lol

They had an interview with Jonathan Ross recently as well..I guess that was to promote the new series

Yeah I know Dave (the TV channel, not the bloke :))I think it used to also have repeats of Trigger Happy. Top Gear is so good - I really hope they don’t kick out Jeremy Clarkson, he is hilarious ! Well DD does require more concentration than other reality shows :) BTW have you noticed the Scottish guy Duncan hardly ever invests? When he eventually does you know damn well its a winner !
