This is the first time I have heard a hotel use its negative reviews and poor standards as a selling point. The Hans Brinker Hotel in Amsterdam has a terribile reputation and is proud of it ! In fact its actually using its awful reputation for poor sevice and dirty rooms as a way to attract guests ??! Check out the poster as an example of their campaign !

I checked out some of the reviews on Trip Advisor and some of them are so bad they’re actually funny! The owners are so proud they’ve brought a book out celebrating the hotel’s crappiness !

Here is a Trip Advisor review by DebDeb 07 from Australia:

“Nothing felt clean. The bathroom smelt like sewerage, the elevators were covered with graffiti and the rooms were dirty and felt like prison cells. I’m not a clean freak by any means, but its the dirtiest place I’ve ever been.

You had to go to reception to open the door if you wanted to get out, which meant that there were often big queues of people just waiting to get out. Surely there must be another way to ensure security?

Breakfast consisted of bread (not toast) with condiments or gross looking ham. You had to pay extra for eggs, juice and fruit. I think if you love partying and don’t care about where you crash then this is the place for you. Otherwise, I’d almost prefer to sleep on a park bench!”
