London

I’m in London for a couple of weeks, but will be posting while I am over here. If anyone has any tips on restaurants or nightlife in London it would be really appreciated. Its been a while since I have stayed this long and would like to check out some new places.

Just keep having Shawerma’s any chance you get while you’re there…you WILL miss them when you come back here!! You’ll be remembering them with tears in your eyes, as I am :-(
Don’t forget to go to ‘Hafiz’ on Hereford rd….their Barg and Jujeh chicken are 2nd to none…their Sabzi is phenomenal aswel…much better food than Alonak in my opinion…
Yeah you are right Z ! That’s on my list and don’t forget the shawerma from Baitak nearby !I tried Maroush and thought it was OK
i know this is too late bas for next time maybe? =D
* new westfields shopping centre..i know its probably Nothing compared to avenues :P bas its still something you Must check out while in london
there are plenty of restaurants (gbk, wagamamas, italian etc etc) on the southern terrace, and cafes all throughout. For your sweet tooth, theres the buttercup bakery..sells the most delicious cupcakes. For savoury, theres the nut hut. And for the most sublime milkshakes ever ( which could compete with Tinseltown :P), check out Shake About. Its a small stand inthe middle of the shopping centre, where they make milkshakes according to your choice of chocolate bar eg. Maltesers, Oreo,Kinder Bueno, Skittles etc etc
* turkish resto called Sofra. Location: st christophers place (which is a small alley full of restaurants/cafes just off Oxford Street/Marylebone High Street incl Cafe Rouge..:D one of my fav cafes!)
Very nice outdoor seating insummer time although there are other branches; Mayfair, st johns wood, covent garden.
They have a sister restaurant called Ozer in oxford circus. Same great service and food!
*Iranian: Behesht (very good food and very cheap, albeit in a slightly dodgy area!)
Kandoo (further down edgware road) have the nicest sabzi and the friendliest owner ever!
*Iraqi: masgouf House in Knightsbridge..seafood - not quite the same as zbeidi and hamouur but very delicious masgouf fish! oh and they have really succulent qouzi and maraq fa9oulia.
*Lebanese: Beirut express shawarma on edgware road (yeaaah not the best place to get away from arabs :P ..but they have good shawarma since you mentioned that!) If you dont mind spicy hot food, ask for the chilli sauce with the shawarma wrap. not for the lighthearted though, it is quite hot ;)
Fatoush also has good lebanese food..shawarma is not too bad.
Levante - close to oxford street and Sofra, although the location is hidden in a side street. Great atmosphere.
Ishbelia in knightsbridge.
*italian restos: Montpeliano, Bella italia, zizzi’s,prezzo
*Pan Asian- wagamamas, hare and tortoise (bracnhes ive been to are high st kensington, and the russel square one=inside the brunswick shopping centre)
*Indian- Veeraswamy, amaya and masala zone ..defffff recommend them! theres also good old Khans in bayswater/queensway!
*Spanish- La tasca. my fav dish is the seafood paella. mouthwatering!
AAAAAAND last but not the least, the best machbooos in london…at my house! loool! :P
but im afraid you wont be able to get that at any resto ;P
i would recommend cupcake cafes/icecream parlours/chocolatiers/tea rooms..but erm..slightly girly. dont think ud enjoy it! hehe PLUS since this is officialy the longest comment ever on any bloggg in the history of blogging :P..i dont wana make it any longer!
ok wow..very very long
i apologise =( thats gonna be a long long read! haha
WOW ! What a fantastic list of tips ! Thanks dp ! I will be printing your comments off for my next trip to London (as I won’t be able to remember all the places) :) I know they’re all good as I can vouch for some of the places you mentioned:
1. Westfield : The gold standard for malls. Not as big as Avenues, but its my favorite mall by far. I could easily spend the whole day there. Gotta check Shake About next time I go !
2. Cafe Rouge - Thumbs up
3. Iranian/Iraqi/Lebanese - those restaurants are all new to me - will check them out (especially if I start feeling homesick).
4. I love Zizzi’s. There’s a good one on Charlotte Street. Good pizzas !
5. Wagamama’s - Never disappoints ! Always quick and good.
6. Khans !! Eat like a King for a tenner !
7. La Tasca - went past it a couple of times and was tempted. Good paella is hard to find, so I’ll be going there next time.
8. dp’s Machbooos - I heard its reservations only with a 3 month waiting list :)
9. You’re right about that girlie stuff :) Although I have always wanted to have afternoon tea at the Wolseley for some reason. It just looks very grand.
Thanks again for all those great tips !
you’re welcome =)
9) i was going to suggest laduree actually, but it seems like there’s no need..you know more than me! ;) hehe
