Movie Review : Terminator Salvation

Managed to catch Terminator Salvation last week. I originally had my doubts about this movie when I heard they were making it. I mean Terminator without Arnold doesn’t seem right and I thought T3 actually was a good end to the franchise. But then I heard Christian Bale is in it – so I changed my mind and decided to watch it.

Its set in the future where all the machines have taken over and the humans are the resistance. The movie has a different feel than the others, more of a Mad Max style.  Even though the plot is really confusing I was really getting into the movie in the first hour and was actually surprised how good it was.  There are a couple of pretty amazing action scenes and special effects are impressive. And then…well then it starts going down hill.

The makers just seemed to have given up on the plot altogether. Even the fighting scenes become boring. We’ve seen it all before. Fighting an invincible android in a factory who keeps coming back at you. So what ? And I’m beginning to wonder if Christian Bale is really that good an actor. Just talking (and shouting) in a deep husky voice doesn’t always make the character more convincing. And that’s part of the problem, you just don’t care about any of the characters.

So the first half of the movie is really good, but then it becomes predictable and you are just waiting for it to end.
