I was reading about a pretty funky gadget and Googled to see if it was available here when I stumbled upon a cool Kuwaiti on-line retailer called Polkalicious.  It markets itself as ” Kuwait ’s First Non-Specialty On-line Store” and although Polkalicious didn’t actually have the gadget I was looking for it does have a lot of cool and very original things to buy - stuff that I have never seen in the boring everyday shops here.

I’ve got to say that the site is mainly targeting female customers (the clothes and shoes sold are only for women), although Guys who are looking to buy something original for a girl should also check it out. They do have a very good selection of gift ideas, gadgets for her, the office (check out the Origami sticky notes!) or the home.

The website is simple, but well laid out. When you click on an item you get a useful description (info which is actually relevant) along with other images of the item where you can zoom in. Before you order you need to register. The form doesn’t look too long - name, address, phone number etc.  The site says that orders are usually delivered to your address in one or two days which is pretty good and I like the idea that you pay in cash on delivery of the items rather than having to order in advance with your credit card.

The people running the site have obviously thought about their customers as they do offer exchange or return on unused purchases. Its amazing how few shops apart from the big chains still do not offer this basic service to its customers - but as a Kuwaiti on-line retailer it’s a good move by Polkalicious to encourage customers to shop with them.

Delivery is a flat KD1 and considering the items sold cannot be easily found in other shops I would say the prices seem OK.  To be honest most of the items on the website I’ve only seen for the first time so its difficult to get a good idea about how cheap or expensive it is.

Oh yeah one other nice touch is that the Company promises to donate 10% of gross profit to charity. This is the type corporate social responsibility that many bigger companies in Kuwait should follow.
