You’re Fired !

about_general

The start of the new season of The Apprentice (UK version) airs tomorrow night in England and I cannot wait to start watching it.  The concept  is similar to the US format where a group of contestants are trying to get a job with a multi-millionaire entrepreneur by successfully completing a series of tasks. At the end of each episode three contestants from the losing team end up in the boardroom where one of them gets fired. But that’s where the similarity ends.

The UK version is sooooo much better. Sir Alan Sugar (the guy who does the hiring and firing) has a charisma and presence that Donald Trump lacks. His style is much more direct and his interrogations in the boardroom get you glued to the TV and never feel scripted. He is being himself, a hard nosed businessman that doesn’t take crap and hates flattery. With Trump, you always feel he has an eye for the ladies on the show ;)  (that was a Trump wink).  But not Sir Alan. If you don’t perform you are out, there’s no room for sentiment.

But its not just the hosts that set the shows apart. The UK version has a realism which the US version lacks. The people on it are ‘real’, don’t want to say ordinary because most of them are quite talented but you know what I mean. They all have their own different personality traits.  They are all on there to seriously become The Apprentice.  Even the production is different. Its done in a more ‘fly on the wall style’ without the flashy and over dramatic touches and music. It is purely the contestants and Sir Alan that provide the drama.

I’ve watched the four previous seasons and they have all been great viewing. Although I thought the last season was the weakest just because of the quality of contestants. Having said that, one of my friends who had never seen the show before watched season 4 and absolutely loved it. Hope season 5 does the business !!

I really cant wait for this to begin! This is by far the best tv show ever made. You can now find out stuff about the contestants of this season on the apprentice’s website if your interested.

I have never seen the British version of the apprentice. It sounds more realistic. However I still do enjoy watching the American version with Trump. Especially now the show has changed to the “celebrity apprentice”, the stars are not the most famous people but it is still pretty good.

Alia – Have never seen Celebrity Apprentice. I think I would probably like it more than the regular Trump Apprentice.

Za – I agree with you there ! Best show in England, Dubai version is so bad its funny !

desertpalms – I’m in kuwait but still get to watch it – the net is a wonderful place ;) Really they did a comic relief one ?! Oh I’ve got to try and see that!

Yeah it is better than the regular apprentice. The difference is that the stars have to raise as much money as possible to give to a charity of their choice,if the project manager wins they give the money raised to their selected charity.

The only annoying thing about it is that when a cheque is handed over to the charity it has a big picture of Donald Trump plastered over it…so it’s all about him at the end of the day!!

By the way try and see the celebrity apprentice season 1. It was really good, stars like Lennox Lewis and Piers Morgan amongst others battle it out.

I really enjoyed the previous seasons of Ap. UK. I really liked the previous winner and I still remember a few other contestants I thought were great, like Ruth Badger and Zairah Khan. I only saw ep. 1 of this years and now that I’m bck in Kuwait I’ve missed the others :< I’m going to have to search for a link.

I think the US one has more drama in it and the UK one is more business-y :p

Oh yeah of course Ruth (who really should have won) and Zaira were great contestants! Remember Tre “You are nothing to me” Azam ? And what about Saeed (“Please Sir Alan, I’ll give you 110% Sir Alan”) ? You’re right about the differences between the two versions – maybe that’s why I prefer the UK one.

Actually you’ve only missed the 2nd episode – its pretty funny. You can get the new season on mininova.
