Give Me The Butter ! Read the front pages of all Kuwait’s newspapers in one place.
With all the newspapers that have sprouted up here in the last couple of years I’d be amazed if anyone has time to go through them all. Even if you did have time, you would need a trolley to carry them all with you. And anyway let’s face it, some of us only have time (or are maybe only interested) to have a quick glance at the front page.
Then I heard about a cool site called Al Zebda, which (as most of you probably know) translated means ‘butter’ but it also has another meaning here in Kuwait. I tried to think of a similar expression in English and the closest I came up with is ‘the bottom line’, as in “Ok, what’s the bottom line ?” Or “Give me the bottom line”. The other expression I guess you could use is “in a nutshell”, as in “give it to me in a nutshell”. Ok with my dabble in linguistics now over, let me tell you about the site - in a nutshell :)
When the site opens you have the front pages of the 13 local Arabic language newspapers, unfortunately the three English dailies aren’t there which is a shame. The images are too small to read the articles at the beginning so you need to click a few times, each time you do so the images get larger. The good thing here is that the site keeps showing all 13 pages until it eventually takes you to the homepage of the newspaper you keep clicking at.
