Cinemagic - Showing Foreign Films & Documentaries in Kuwait

filmreelgldn12I haven’t been to the cinema for months here in Kuwait. The main reason is that there hasn’t really been anything on but also you need to be lucky not to have someone behind you talking all the way through (either with the person next to him/her or on the phone!!) which really bugs me. My theory is that the cinema is worth going to watch blockbusters with loads of action - otherwise you’re taking a chance. Unfortunately there are also loads of good foreign films and documentaries which never get shown here so I’m forced to watch it at home on DVD. That’s until I heard about a unique group called Cinemagic.

Last weekend I attended 2 Cinemagic events (reviews of the movies I watched are in my next post).  Its run by a small group of people who really appreciate foreign and independent movies.  The wonderful thing about Cinemagic is that the movies are projected on a big screen outdoors on a rooftop of a building in old Salmiya! There is also surround sound so you really have that cinema feel.  They offer free popcorn and refreshments which is a nice touch. The fact that they don’t even charge for attending - which in today’s world is really something - shows that its all about enjoying good, original filmaking together.

Cinemagic events also provide a showcase for young Kuwaiti directors to show their short movies. I’m always proud to see Kuwaiti artistic talent and its great to know they have a venue to show what they have created.

The best way to know what Cinemagic events are on  is to join the Cinemagic group on Facebook or you can check their website  : http://www.cinemagics.tv/events.html
